Euan Conquers Three Peaks Challenge for Charity

One of Newstead Clark’s leading financial advisors has completed an extraordinary charity hiking challenge to raise money for two great causes.

Euan Aston recently completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, which saw him and a group of friends summit Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales within a 24-hour period.

The incredible effort included a total walking distance of 23 miles – the rough equivalent of walking from Newstead’s office in Wolverhampton to Birmingham Airport – but also saw a phenomenal 3,000 metres of climbing.

Euan, a Chartered Financial Advisor at Newstead Clark, completed the challenge within the 24-hour time frame with just eight minutes to spare, and he and his friends have raised more than £7,000 for Cancer Research UK and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

“We set off from the West Midlands around mid-morning, and we began our ascent of Ben Nevis at 7.41pm,” Euan said, reflecting on his incredible charity effort. “It was pitch black when we reached the top at around 1 a.m.

“We travelled through the night to the Lake District to complete the second summit before the final one at Snowdon in Wales. The lack of sleep hits hard and you are up against the clock – I had to run the last two miles to make sure I completed it within the 24 hours but I got over the line in the end.

“We started training in March around six months before. We hiked up Snowdon and did other practice climbs, but nothing really can prepare you for the mental challenge. You get an immense feeling of accomplishment at the end and I am very proud to be able to say I have completed it.”

Out of the £7,000 total pot, Euan raised £1,700 personally, with Newstead Clark making a generous donation of £250, and the fundraising page still active:

Euan continued: “A huge thank you to everyone who supported us along the way, donated money to our JustGiving page and gave us the encouragement needed to complete the challenge.

“The total sum raised will be split between the two charities who do brilliant work for the communities and people they aim to help.”

Euan and his friends have got a taste for climbing and have set their sights on Mount Kilimanjaro in the near future.

Rob Clark, Newstead Clark Managing Director, said: “Everyone at Newstead Clark is incredibly proud of Euan for completing the National Three Peaks Challenge.

“As a business, we actively encourage our colleagues to do things in the local community. To have raised that much money is brilliant, so well done to him and his friends.”
